Hi, I am Kathryn. I have worked within the Fostering team at Peterborough City Council since February 2022 and my current role is a Senior Recruitment Officer.
My favourite part of being involved in fostering is meeting kind, generous and compassionate individuals that wish to make a difference to children’s lives. It is incredibly rewarding to recruit those that want to help and achieve best outcomes for children and young people. It is also a real pleasure to be able to be part of events that celebrate our children and families, such as our annual awards day, which is always a day filled with fun activities, games, and of course cake. Seeing everyone together as a family, really highlights the positives of fostering.
Fostering is extremely rewarding, but of course does present its challenges. My advice to anyone considering fostering is to think about your own situation and availability carefully. Do you have patience and resilience and are able to provide stability, even during the more challenging and difficult times? This is key to children in foster care as they need to feel loved and wanted, the same as we all do.
Fostering enriches a child’s life, as well as your own. Not only does it provide a loving home and stability for those in need, becoming a foster carer opens the door to a new network of people that can offer vital support and guidance and provide opportunities to make new friends.
Fostering with Peterborough City Council ensures that local children can have some stability in their lives during what is likely to be a very difficult and uncertain time for them. Fostering for your Local Authority means that we can keep them in their schools and close to their friends and family
