Back to Stories

Burton is one of our incredible Supervising Social Workers at Foster with Peterborough, part of Peterborough City Council. We asked Burton some questions about his role below!

How does your role support fostering?
“I work directly with foster carers and their families, offering guidance, supervision, and emotional support. My role ensures that carers feel confident and well-equipped to provide stable, nurturing homes for the children in their care. I also help them navigate training, reviews, and any challenges that arise along the fostering journey.”

What is your favourite part about fostering?
“It’s the relationships – watching bonds grow, resilience bloom, and knowing that even small support can help change a young person’s life. There’s nothing quite like seeing carers and children connect, thrive, and laugh together.”

What would your advice be to someone thinking about fostering?
“Be open, be patient, and bring your whole heart. No one expects perfection – just a commitment to show up, learn, and provide a safe space. Speak to other carers, ask questions, and know that you’re not alone – support is always there.”

Why should someone foster?
“Because every child deserves a champion. Fostering gives you the chance to offer stability, hope, and care to someone who truly needs it. It’s challenging, yes – but it’s also life-changing in the best possible way.”

Why should someone foster with Peterborough City Council above anyone else?
“At Peterborough City Council, we genuinely put relationships first. Our team is local, experienced, and invested – we know our carers personally, offer tailored support, and walk alongside you every step of the way. You’re not just a number; your part of a team making a real difference in your community”
